Climate Change and Sustainability: Youth Challenge Team

April 2016- ASA- Programme,together
with various municipal regions within Germany, are giving youths from
the Global South the opportunity to engage in projects in Germany
relating to climate change education and awareness, development and work
creation for youths. The program is being used to encourage young people to become involved with global sustainabilityand getting them to personnaly partcipate in sustainable development. all of these different programs take place in two phases, three months in the North(Germany) and three months in the South (country of the Global South participants.
One of the ASA programs within Germany based in Neumarkt Municipality is the Climate Change Youth Challenge Team-keystone for sustainability. In this program two participants from the City of Neumarkt, Lena Grüber and Carina Mitterhofer, is working together with Margaou Prins and Shaun Reece from Drakestein Municipality in South Africa (photo). Together they are working on an awareness campaign regarding the topics of climate change and fairtrade. One of the products that the team will be developing through these projects is a Climate Trail, a tool that will be used in Climate Change Education in Neumarkt, Drakenstein and even some of the surrounding municipalities in Germany. The second product will be an interactive map, where some of Neumarkt's most sustainable companies, organisations and institutions can be displayed.
A climate partnership was formed between the South African municipality of Drakenstein and the town of Neumarkt in Bavaria in 2014. This program has produced a Joint Programme of Action which specifies what should be implemented in the partnership, what the objections for the specific implementation and also who are the responsible individuals.
This Climate Change Youth Challenge Program is anticipated to be a huge success with likely further development and expansion to be done after the six months, so we will keep you posted on the progress of the project as we go along!
